Jeri Edwards-Orfali

Jeri Edwards-Orfali, 56, of Honolulu passed away on June 19, 2009 after a heroic ten-year battle with cancer. Jeri was a warm and loving human being and a passionate surfer. She had a great career in Silicon Valley as a Software Executive, gifted lecturer, and author of multiple bestselling computer science books. She moved to Hawaii in 1998 with her husband and co-author Robert Orfali. The ocean was her healer and friend. It kept her alive for ten years (along with Dr. Terada at Queens, Paul and Michelle at Castle, and numerous nurses and doctors at both Queens, and St. Francis Hospice). Jeri will be greatly missed by her husband Robert, who was her soul mate for 30 years. She will also be missed by the Waikiki surfing community, beach boys, lifeguards and many friends. A traditional surfer’s funeral service will be held for Jeri on June 28, 2009 at Waikiki Beach, in front of Duke’s at the Outrigger Hotel at 9:00 AM. Bring loose flowers to throw with the ashes, your bathing suits and casual beach attire. Non-surfers can accompany Jeri on the catamaran and canoes, if the swell is not too big.

WHEN:
Sunday, June 28, 2009 – 9:00 AM

There will be a traditional surfer’s Paddle Out as well as a brief memorial ceremony on the beach before the paddle out.

WHERE:
Waikiki Beach in front of Duke’s restaurant, Outrigger Hotel.
The Paddle-out will be held beyond the break at the Canoes surfing spot.

WHAT TO BRING:
A surfboard, if you surf, loose flowers to be thrown into the ocean with the ashes (please don’t throw the plastic bag into the ocean). If you do not surf, bring some beach attire, we will provide catamarans and canoes to keep you dry, slippers will make it easier in the sand.
